That's exactly why the shift to Happy Holidays. Most of us say both now. Donald Trump is wront here, he's being anti-American.

There's also Kwanzaa, Yule is making a strong comeback, basically any community that has a religious celebration around this time of year will have some sort of community event. That's in addition to Hanukah, which you mentioned.

We are multi-cultural and multi-ethnic. So Happy Holidays recognizes and honors that fact. Alsoz we don't reder to vacation as "holiday", so to discount it for that reason is equally weird and awkward for us as using 'holiday' for both vacation and Christmas is for all of y'all.

All that said, I think you're right that Brits would be better served to stick with "Merry Christmas" but that's just my opinion. I'm not claiming to have the right to any kind of say on the matter either.

Besides, why does it have to be the same way? It's not like we don't know what you mean and you dont know what we mean. Are people really so far gone that they're gonna come completely unglued if you say to me, "Happy Holidays!" and I respond "and a very Merry Christmas to you!"

I mean...what for? To what end? What's the purpose?

This is just Trump being a divisive ass-hat in lock step with the yearly ReThuglican smear campaign about the propagandized liberal "war on Christmas".
