That's an unattainable standard though. You can't know someone else's belief set. Nor are you responsible for their feelings.
If you're being honest, being genuine, and standing up for your beliefs and your point of view, you will offend someone.
It's a matter of when, not if.
And let's face it, some people don't believe you have the right to life on your own terms, liberty, autonomous enterprise, or happiness. Sometimes they don't even believe their genuine and deeply held beliefs deprive you.
So it's never going to be as simple as "can't we all just get along?"
Also, political discussions are not war. They're oassionate debates about how we collectively agree to live our lives. It's writing the rules we all agree to live by. Those discussions are bound to get heated because everyone is vying for their place in the world and to ensure their safety in the world amongst each other.
