That's actually what the melee is called in the game. It started as two versions. One was like a cross between a build game like Minecraft and a tower game where you're defending a fort (you built) against alien aggressors.

I think they've phased that part out now and it's 'Battle Royale' only, a first person shooter melee with traps and other hazards.
