He's in a dress shirt and tie, the type one wears to work, he's clean and groomed, he's attended to his posture. The sunglasses aren't great imo, but that's a style choice. He's maintaining a respectful spacing, he's smiling with open, non-aggressive body posture, he's not acting like he's struggling out or acting cagey in a weird way....

They've clearly been conversing (I get that it's staged, judging the scene here, let's not fall into testerics) a while and he's engaged and engaging.

Is it the beard? That's a hair preference, not a character profiling reference. Some women dislike beards; some women love them. Same as with baldness, body type, height, musculature, and other aesthetic preferences. These things have zero bearing on what makes a guy "tough or rough looking".
