That’s a false equivalency. The common cold does not kill people at the same rate. The population at large has an immune response to the common cold.

The common cold does not bankrupt people, nor does it overwhelm hospitals and endanger public health response (to other conditions and emergencies).

At some point in the future Covid-19 might be little more than the common cold. But don’t pretend we’re there already or that we’re going to get there without a lot of pain and suffering. It’s incredibly callous to those who have already lost loved ones and those who will between now and then.

We also have traffic laws and civil engineering to make roads safer as well as safety features designed into vehicles to reduce deaths related to car travel. We require people to spend time learning to operate a vehicle safely and pass a licensing exam to prove they have. So it’s not like people are out randomly driving around all over the place willy nilly in DIY cars held together with duct tape taking chances with their lives and everyone else’s.

Your argument falls apart under the slightest application of common sense and critical thinking. It’s both mentally lazy and absurd.
