That would be fine if we simultaneously ended corporate socialism and stopped subsidizing failing industry.
Then everyone could afford their bills, there would be enough tax base to rebuild infrastructure and a proper social safety net, and commerce would be revitalized because bad business would fail like it’s supposed to and the vacuum would be filled by better/hungrier entrepreneurs from all walks of life.
In other words… you can’t have a functioning society when there are de facto two different economic models in play. Either we’re all capitalists and corporations need to stop depending on the tax base they don’t contribute fairly to to fund their folly or we’re all socialists and everyone gets a more equitable portion of the pie because taxes go toward more social goods and services.
