That depends on a couple of things:

If the Republican governors comply with federal control and not tie up efforts in the courts.

If Mitch McConnell loses his election so he cannot stymy stimulus efforts.

If the Republicans lose control of the Senate. Same reason.

If the population complies with control efforts without ripping what’s left of the country apart over ridiculousness spouted by populist idiots speaking half truths at best.

How much of a hole we’ll have to climb out of economically come January.

What sort of tattered remains of the healthcare system exist come January.

How many people are homeless.

How many people are starving.

Whether an educational system remains after this ludicrous attempt to open schools come hell or high water irregardless of a raging pandemic. That’s going to go well.

Whether or not the public at large has any confidence whatsoever left in any politician or government agency or institution. There will be no government without consent of the governed.

It’s been roughly 6 months since this thing has hit our shores. Pandemics have a way of toppling nations. This one has certainly laid bare our vulnerabilities and exposed our weaknesses and over reliance on many things.

We’ve got 6 months to go until either this administration gets it’s sh*t together or we have a new administration up at bat to attempt to salvage the situation.

Or, we learn to handle it ourselves. It doesn’t matter much if it’s illegal in Georgia to make people wear a mask. You can’t make it illegal for them to to wear one if they choose. It doesn’t matter if the Chief BlowHard says mask wearing is stupid and does nothing. You can choose to mind your own damn business and steer clear of people who choose to wear one. Or better yet, recognize they have a different life than you and they may need to protect themselves or a family member. Maybe they know they’re positive or have been exposed and they’re trying to protect you. Respect that, even if you don’t agree with it. Be willing to make some hard choices. They can’t lock everyone up for truancy. It may take this or the threat of it to get DeVos to make better policy. Write her. Write your local school board. Write your Congresspersons. Draw a line and say no. No, we won’t accept. We don’t agree. We won’t comply. Yurtle the Turtle.

It’s not like there won’t be consequences either way at this point. It’s not like they’re not prepared to accept losses. They’ve said so. Just don’t forget which way sh*t flows and remember that the accounting of the power brokers rarely ever matches the accounting of the Yertles of the world. So choose wisely.
