Thanks for laying that out, I appreciate your perspective. And you're right, it's the association of the word guess with randomness, uncertainty, and lack of knowledge.

Also, the brain is a biological super computer. Assessment hits better for me based on that and it's association with data analysis. Again, the process is subconscious, but it's based on knowledge (observed input), loose experiential "statistics" (compaing and contrasting against everything you've experienced before and stores in memory), and it's not random. You may not and can not have 100% certainty because you can't be inside another's head but we don't treat 90% certainty like it's a 50/50 coin toss either.

I like assessment because it acknowledges that you're making a judgement after analyzing data. It doesn't fit in that it's associates with a systemic collection of data and since we're talking about a subconscious process, I'm not sure that applies. So maybe assessment isn't the best fit either.
