Society doesn't really "leave you alone", those pressures are still there.
You just stop internalizing them and start ignoring them.

Like a male commenter said above, nobody is holding a gun to your head, it's just an expectation you've believed you had to fulfill.

The "expectation" had come from unconscious messaging in marketing ads. We are awash in it from the time we are babes. Sex sells. So companies advertise their products using sex or sexual gratification. It's in nearly every ad.

For years, the marketing has targeted women's natural desires to be atteaxtive to men. So men have convinced themselves that this is a weakness in women. And women have turned themselves inside out to match the requirement set forth by marketing propaganda. Eating disorders, body modification surgeries, buying whatever look is being promoted.

But. Men are not immune to this. In recent years, as the beauty market has saturated and I being rejected by more and more women, they've started targeting men. Men have a natural desire to be attractive to women as well. And guess what they're doing? Eating disorders in men are on the rise, body modification surgeries, crazy insane workout regimens, hair procedures, OTC sexual performance enhancers, etc ... turning themselves inside out to he attractive to women based on what ads say women like. When it doesn't work, a lot of them go red pill.
