It comes down to this. You've got two main problems with your argument. You're standing on theological doctrine as though it is solid rock when in reality it is shifting sands. And two, you're a hypocrite.

I don't know what other deliberate stance conservative Christians could have taken to ensure that any future soul crops for Jesus run screaming for the hills. I don't think I've seen or read about any other time where Christian have acted so self destructively in this country with the possible exceptions of the Witch Trials, the Holocaust, Slavery, and Civil Rights.
