Snide. This conflict is less geographic on a state level in the first place and is being pushed more by midwest “red” state politicians in the second. And Lindsey Graham. It’s important to note that it’s less a state philosophy and more of a political posturing from those vying for GOP notice. The people pushing this nonsense are wanting a chance at the presidency themselves. They’re trying to prove they can motivate/take over the Trump base.
If Dems get control of congress it will be Georgia, a SOUTHERN state, that passes that torch.
States are labeled blue and red based on a winner take all analysis of votes in line with how the electoral college works. One single vote more in a state colors that state red or blue. But that’s not an accurate vote distribution. In reality, all states are purple states.
If there is any geography to our current divide it is more urban vs. rural. Check out the county vote maps. Counties with metropolitan areas across the whole nation vote Democrat. Counties without vote Republican. That says a lot.
