Short answer, Calvinism.

It’s not about the life of the child. It’s about a soul for Jesus. They’re buying their own ticket to heaven. They don’t care who has to suffer for that ticket.

It’s so warped.

And you’re right. The whole thing is as far from Christ as it is possible to be, or anti-Christ. Yep. I went there.

Evangelical fundamentalists are what’s driving this, politically speaking.

They’re thinking like the Norse myths of Ragnarok, actually. Only, instead of God (or Odin) collecting the souls of the slain, the great commission has tasked believers to that. You, as a believer, get a kind of credit toward heaven for every soul you bring to Jesus. The bigger your credit, the better your position in heaven. The more you allow to fall into purgatory, the less your position. Very hierarchical, like a Tupperware business. Or Avon.

Since you have to become saved (accept Jesus, there’s a whole spiel), then the unborn are doomed to hell because they never got the chance to be saved. You have to repent of your sins and in front of a witness accept Jesus. You need a mouth and language to be able to do that.

The condemned to be executed, on the other hand, still go to heaven so long as they ask God to forgive their sins and accept Jesus before that switch gets flipped. It doesn’t matter what they did or who/how many they hurt.

By this logic, execution equals a good. Abortion equals a sin.

Unlike most faiths, other Christian sects, and even Evangelicals prior to that fraud Billy Graham, Evangelicals today believe a zygote has a soul. So that part is relatively new, been pushed since the late 70s. Before that, Evangelicals believed like everyone else that babies went to heaven because they were innocent.

But now Evangelicals really promote this born in sin notion and have taken it to extremes.

The hypocrisy is unlimited here. They refuse to see it. But here’s a big obvious one. They’ll condemn a woman getting an abortion and bemoan the loss of that "precious little soul" for Jesus because it’s going straight to hell for all eternity and then turn right around and praise Jesus for any baby lost to them via miscarriage or early death. They’ll go on and on about how Jesus needed that baby to soothe his loneliness, how that baby is an angel in heaven, and how that baby is better off to not have suffered in such a miserable world. On and on and on. Ad nauseum infinitum.

That baby who never developed to the point of speech or understanding enough to gain salvation via the whole spiel. That baby who by their own logic they insist on cramming down everyone else’s throat must also be doomed to hell. Doomed.

And they won’t bat an eye.

As expected for folks who have lost their god damned minds. Because clearly, it’s nuts.
