He's the big projected head that everyone trembles before and he gets off on that because he's a weak, snibelking coward. And she runs things from behind the curtain, which in this case is his male status and patriarchal rules.

You see this a lot in high powered men (couples). At least one of the two of them is a narcissist or a sociopath. If it's not him, it's her.

In regards to women's rights, every time a major milestone or a major threat is involved, you will find one or more of these women pulling strings out of sight. Phyllis Schlayfly is an obvious exception, but she was more charasmatic than the average person and certsinly far more so than her husband. So she became a rare figurehead.
