She didn't learn it from YOUNG men. She learned it from MRA.
Somebody could educate me about the sky being purple tomorrow but it's still my job to weigh that out against my own observations, do my own research, suss it out, and think it through critically.
It is not my job to repeat and promote clear misinformation without a care in the world. And if one is deliberately making money off of it, that makes them a snake oil salesman. We have words for what that makes them. Lots of them, because these people are always out there, skulking around the fringes like hyenas.
Social media didn't cause men to be unsocialized and lonely.
They turned to social media because they were already robbed of socialization. Social media has been great for some but it made the problems of others worse, partly because of human nature and partly because it was a free for all for the hyenas amongst us.
Does it really need to be pointed out that over the years we slowly criminalized youth? We started running schools like prisons. All the places kids used to go to hang out have gone. Teen boys can't walk the street, especially boys of color, can't walk the street without worrying about police harassment, they're being snatched up by gangs and there's no protection for them, like women, they are under tremendous pressure (stochastic terrorism) of being murdered by a bigger, more violent man but unlike women they can't admit the anxiety they feel because of it due to social pressure, things are marketed to them that are not good for their mental health when that makes up the bulk of their mental diet (garbage in, garbage out), they're kept in overly supervised activities all day long and rarely get any quiet time to themselves as teenagers to learn about themselves and learn to regulate, every goddamned thing in the world is turned into a sick competition they have to succeed or fail at.
There's a reason why so many young men and women are looking for alternate ways to live and to tap out of society. All the trimmings of late stage capitalism are dehumanizing. The societal environment we have built for them is literally destroying their humanity.
They know it. Most of them don't have the words to say it yet, they're too close to it still. But they know it. And they're looking for ways out.
All these problems were present and growing long before social media came into existence. Ergo, social media did not cause them. What it did was magnify extremes, either to the positive or to the negative.
Watch out for those hyenas.
