Perhaps not ultimately and there’s indications that further issues will be next, but abortion is the one currently on the table so it will most likely be the issue where the final line gets drawn or not If they get routed on this issue, they get routed on the others as well. And not just women’s issues, but all civil and social rights issues too. They’ve been playing dirty for years depending on us keeping to food faith tactics while they’ve chipped away at our righs to full citizenship and equal treatment.
An ultimatum that starkly makes clear that we are not going back to that era, We will not be 2nd class citizens, and We refuse to be disenfranchised again needs to happen. It’s where we are. We need to recognize it.
The husband/boyfriend comment wasn’t directed at your(singular) boyfriend in particular, but to the male companion of the readership at large (your plural). This is a public forum, after all. Apparently that didn’t come across right so my apologies there. No offense was intended.
As you implied, one does not have to be female to champion the rights of the marginalized. As such, men who think this is a bad move should also be willing to move to another state that does not strip the rights from half it’s citizenry.
Take your money and your talents elsewhere. And let it be known why. If they just have to have their white supremacist’s dream, this time they can do so on the labor of their own backs and good luck with that.
Institutional norms and protections have failed. We need to recognize that too. But we are not powerless and we are not without agency. Hysterics don’t help. Strategic stubbornness does. Get stubborn, don’t play nice anymore, and make the bastards pay for it.
