Creepy is overused you know. Staring longingly and lovingly at a strange flag who doesn't know you for too long in public might be a little socially awkward or odd. There's no reason whatsoever that it should make anyone in the same public space not staring at the flag feel uncomfortable.

You should, instead, with kindness and generosity of spirit, keeping those hairs on the back of your neck that are standing up because you've been creeped out under control, gently demonstrate to Americans the appropriate length of time and how to gaze at the flag without creeping people out.
