Only because it’s harder to get the ones actually engaging the war on board with going up against China. China has much more resources and personnel than Iraq or Iran for example. China also had the foresight to make themselves indispensible to America via manufacturing. Not that that’s a true barrier, but it’s inconvenient enough to warrant a pause.
So it’s not like he’s not trying to whip up interest. Not like he’s not demonizing China to the populace to get support for escalations. He’s definitely 'poking the opossum' to test reactions.
Let’s hope military heads continue to deter his insanity. The American people do not want another war. After Bush lied about WMD to get support for the invasion of Iraq, they better spend some time regaining the trust of the American people.
Refusing to fire on the protestors is a good start. Staying out of politics if he refuses to leave office is another. Maybe put some thought into a response to a possible October surprise by Trump’s stormtroopers, though I admit, that’s prickly.
