Oh yeah. Absolutely.
We have a culture predicated on exploitation that glories in violence. It is what it is.
That’s means there will always be abusers and victims until the culture changes.
We’re always going to have to be on our guards to make sure we don’t become victims.
Something else we don’t talk about enough though is that we must also be on guard to make sure we don’t become abusers and don’t provide cover for abusers.
There are a lot of ways to be an abuser and a lot of ways to be a victim. While overall, it’s not a gendered issue some specific dynamics are but they are not absolutes. For example. Intimate partner violence is gendered (predominantly male abusers). So is child abuse (predominantly female abusers). Neither of those are absolutes.
