Number 1. Nobody is "killing the guy". You’re conflating to try to cause some drama. Criticism does not cause death. Also, this was internalized thought during a zoom meeting. He never knew. There is no harm to the guy.

Number 2. It’s not being awkward. There’s just no reasonable way to take that comment in a favorable light. It’s incredibly obtuse any way you look at it. To be fair, I didn’t get exactly what the author got from it. My thought was, "playing with your kids isn’t a hobby, that’s your responsibility." It’s another example of seeking praise for the absolute bare minimum.

Number 3. You stepped right into what the author was talking about without pause or hesitation or self reflection of any kind, completely proving her point. Well done.

If you men are so aggrieved of feminist criticism and women’s scorn I suggest, kindly, that you stop working so much overtime to earn it.

Maybe spend some time with the kids. Or do some dishes. Fold some laundry. Make your own damn sandwich. Make your wife and kids one too while you’re at it.
