Nothing. It was a good comment, they both were. You stumbled upon what most men blithely ignore to feel like they're "good guys". That in a rape culture or a community with an unapprehended serial rapist, there is trust in men. There's a veneer of civility because you can't come out and accuse all men of being rapists or even potential rapists.

But you can't trust men. Any of them. You have to treat them with the same awareness, hypervigilence, and care as you would a loaded gun, or a rattlesnake, or a sinking boat that will pull you under if you don't get clear.

This is what rape culture does. It is just the same as any other stochastic terrorism.
