It makes perfect sense.

He trolled her out of boredom, she swatted him like you would any old nuisance barfly, he got triggered and made an embarrassment out of himself EVEN MORE (nobody thought that was possible), which opened the floodgates of public humiliation.

Which he definitely earned.
