No, it couldn't. There would still be homelessness and hunger. These are multi-faceted problems and no amount of money thrown at them will magically solve them. That thinking is its own sort of hubris.
Some people starve themselves, some people starve their children. Some people want to be homeless, some people have to be because there are no more facilities to handle their mental health problems. Some people live gypsy lives like migrant workers; tying them to a house on one spot would prevent them from earning a living. There's a whole group whontravel between Phoenix working for Amazon during the xmas season and Alaska during fishing season.
Hard truths.
Just generically throwing money at "homelessness" and "hunger" will not end homelessness and hunger.
Dolly Parton could be a billionaire but she's given great suns of her wealth away. She's still worth around $650 million, but at this point, many weakthy are giving her money to donate on their behalf so they don't have to do the work of managing it responsibly.
That is a whole job in and of itself. Several, in fact. Bezos gave her a million. I'd guess that she's accruing again because she's handling all this philanthropic work for others.
And you have to know, getting caught up in one scam or one scandal around, whether you had anything to do with it or not, and all hell breaks loose. Philanthropy attracts people looking to scam easy money.
Again, I agree with you that billionaires shouldn't exist. Many do fall into lives of excess and entitlement. The vast majority, I'd say.
I sure as hell wouldn't want a billion dollars. I wouldn't know what to do with myself with a million. That would cause me extreme anxiety. But then, I've never been one to be overly fussed about status.
We won't know till we know. I don't blame her for focusing on her career right now. I see some utility in pooling before dispersing. You may not. Where she is right now is fleeting, that's the nature of her industry. She may never have the reach she has right now again. There's value in the community feel she's building too. It's in direct contradiction to the norm. It's not fake or a gimmick.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I think once the whirlwind ends....and it will eventually.....she's going to be more like Dolly Parton than Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos.
