Nah. They're feeling like their lives have been wasted. They don't want the burden of a man. They just don't want to be shelved by society either when the FINALLY have some freedom after raising a family. It's a kind of mid life crisis.

It's interesting that you assume a woman who has raised a family already and is single at 50 must be desperate for a date. Shows your own bias. If being married and having kids was that great for everyone, she wouldn't be single at 50. So why repeat an action, expecting a different result? Isn't that kinda nuts?
