My grandmother was corporally punished for being left handed. Her (male) teacher and father would slap her hard in the middle of her back when they caught her writing left handed in school or while doing homework. Hard enough to knock the wind out of her.

Then when she grew up and had children of her own they criticized her for not making my dad write right handed.
