My favorite responses to loneliness in the south . . . “You’re lonely because you’re not right with God” (if you were living the way God intended you wouldn’t be lonely) and “you just need to find yourself a good man, sugar”. The circumstances created by being a single parent also means that sometimes the village just doesn’t want you — your circumstances make them uncomfortable. So out of sight out of mind. And when you call them out on it, there’s going to be a backlash.
