My assertion at this point is they both stand accused but neither has been accused by a criminal court.
They’re accusing each other in civil litigation.
Neither should be condemned by the public because neither has been criminally charged.
No, I don’t think Johnny Depp should be "condemned" but, I’m concerned that so many who were angry about the public outcry are ready and willing with their own pitchforks now that Amber Heard stands accused. Still with little to no evidence or appreciation of nuance. It is still one person’s word against another. This is hypocrisy and double standard at their finest.
I’m also not completely convinced that Johnny Depp being dropped as Jack Sparrow and Grindelwald was strictly about the accusations of DV. Both those characters belong to stories geared toward children and those companies have a vested interest in keeping associations, let’s say, wholesome. Further, these are costly productions. Studios won’t tolerate cast or crew costing money by holding up production. Everyone is replaceable.
My point is, I’m not convinced the drug problem wasn’t as much or more of a factor of him being dropped as the accusations of violence given, again, that there was no formal charge.
Same thing happened to Robert Downey Jr when his drug use and conviction on drug charges made him an unreliable actor. He got dropped. Real quick.
The guy Rivka Wolf responded to used this case as a representative of a broader issue rather than the microcosm it is Soni didn’t think her comment was hysterical. I felt she was being sarcastic, and had a point, again about the broader issue of violence against women.
The guy came off as one of these 'let’s use this situation as a cudgel against #MeToo and feminism' dudes.
