Most psychopaths/sociopaths are able to mask. Once you find yourself in a relationship with one, it's dangerous to leave.

Some guys do well and truly give off imminent danger vibe. I don't know that Sodoni was one.

As for why women stay, there's been lots written and thought about that. It does seem to be a type of behavioral freeze response in most cases.
