Most of my family is newer to this country than that time frame — the signing. Nonetheless, I too am feeling this deep shame and sense that my ancestors are rolling over in their graves. Yesterday was the sort of stuff they were fleeing. Yesterday was not what they came over here for and spent their whole lives building. Though I have not served, many in my family have. My grandfather did not lie in a foxhole for days, pinned down by a sniper, for yesterday to occur.
Yesterday shames us all.
