Most Christians will say that angels have no free will, that free will was a gift reserved for humanity. As the story goes, this made the angels jealous, particularly Lucifer, and this is why they rebelled and were cast out of heaven as punishment.

Which was, of course, an act of free will.

When you point this out to them, the mental gymnastics eventually get around to the idea of predetermination. Because God is all knowing, he knew what they were going to do and allowed it to happen so it wasn’t truly an act of free will in technicality.

Calvinist thought. Calvin liked to torture people and see them burned at the stake for heresy. But this is the man who’s logic many Christians want to hang their hopes for eternity on.
