Men who think this and behave this way never had good motives for wanting the kid in the first place. This is referring to men who talked the woman into having the kid in the first place and then act like this.

They wanted the kid as a status symbol and/or because they want to look good to young women by parading around what a great dad they are when out. It’s all an act. That kid is like a doll to them.

Then they go home and take all that resentment out on mom. Cannot tell you how often I have seen this in evangelical culture.
