Men always say this. Problem is, that dynamic only works when the party doing the approaching wants to approach as much as the party being approached wants to be aporoached.
Clearly, that's not the case.
Men would have to be content to sit and not be approached or be overlooked because they're not what's fashionably desireable in the moment.
I don't think they can do this. It takes a certain sort of fortitude somewhat lacking amongst the male gender.
Women can do this easily. In fact, broad strokes, we prefer it. Our problem is that we can't get men to stop approaching us or to take a polite no for an answer the first and only time it should be given.
