Me too. Let's be clear here. Patriarchal conditioning doesn't affect everyone the same. Not everyone ends up loathing themselves and adopting maladaptive behaviors.
But it absolutely does negatively impact a lot of people to a large degree. It comes down to how well you handle shame. The pecking order is predominantly establishes and maintained by shame. You have to be conditioned to hate your body to the point where you're binging, starving yourself, or cutting. Otherwise you'd thibk of your body as a tool to get you from point A to point B or you wouldn't think about it much at all. You have to be conditioned to believe you have to work yourself to death to have value or take stupid risks to prove your manhood. Otherwise you'd never question your worth and you'd behave show off in ways that can kill you.
Not everyone develops these (and other) maladaptive behaviors. But we know they exist and a lot of people really suffer from them. Their families suffer.
So let's not pretend like it's not that big of a deal on one hand but then complain that no one cares about suicides and loneliness, addictions, checking out, and anger, etc. Let's get to the root, and put up or shut up.
