Lol. Yeah. I always get a chuckle out of people who don’t realize the difference between barely surviving and thriving. Or that most of us don’t have the tools, skills, or knowledge to survive at less technological and organizational levels.
We’re giving up our civilization because we can’t slow down the party train enough to signal the switch to change tracks. For all intents and purposes, it’s too late. Nothing to do now but party on, stare in horror at the open cliff while we barrel toward it, or try to get off the train without killing yourself and be willing to leave everyone behind who’s too afraid or too stupid to jump. That’s pretty much where we are.
Given the above, the general American malaise should be no surprise. I was 8 when Carter gave this speech. Read it again, it’ll break your heart. We’re still here, trapped in this same moment, 40 years later. And we still can’t get enough people to sober up enough to see it.
