Let's assume you are correct about the "sin" of abortion for the sake of argument. If God gave us free will to decide to sin or not, the no human law should be made preventing that exercise. Otherwise, you're interfering with the Almighty. Not good. Any sin we may or may not commit is between us and God.
If we're supposed to have free will to come to God through Jesus then it has to be on the terms and eager willingness of the individual, not through religious compulsion. We either have that free will to sin or not or we don't. The state, under the behest of religion, should not interfere. Religious interests should not undermine state policy on their whims, which by the way have changed position for political gain. Separation of church and state dude. For a damn reason.
Jesus hated hypocrites. To him, they were the absolute worst.
