I don't think their function is to coddle people through educating themselves. They function as clarions or Cassandras. There's nothing wrong with that. It's like, when you start studying a subject in school you start out with the basics and take a broad view. Each year you get a little more in depth and focused. More complex. That doesn't make the textbook you had last year trash. The kids a year behind you still need it. You've just grown beyond it. It's not the textbook's job to realize that, it's yours. If one has grown beyond them, then stop reading them. No one is being forced. Exercise some self control. Don't blame them because (univ)you don't have any.
I object to all these people saying the problem is with the authors and demanding their feelings be pandered to. The problem is with the reader, not those writers. Also, they do both offer solutions all the time. If people choose to not see that, that again, is a reader problem. Plenty of other people easily see the hope and solutions in their work. It's there.
I object to the false claims.
I object to the bandwagon bashing and hypocrisy of claiming they write as they do solely to make money while simultaneously profiting off their names and trashing them.
That doesn't mean I don't get that for some people they may be a little much at times.
Some of these people actually have a legit grievance. They're upset because they have muted them on their page but are still seeing their articles pop up in their feed regularly. That's legit. But, I'm disappointed that those people are also bandwagon bashing, blaming them for that when they obviously have nothing to do with it. They have no control over who gets their articles in their feed. They're not paying extra to get around the algorithm. Hell, if that was a thing a lot of people would be doing it. Won't challenge the CEO or demand transparency of the algorithm or even an investigation. But they'll trash and slander the writers as that will fix the problem. Hope they feel better at least.
