I’ve run into this problem with conservatives. First they say I’m I “libral" with disgust. Then they say I’m a communist. Then I’m a socialist. Then I’m unpatriotic.

So when I remind them that it’s everyone’s civic duty to speak when they don’t agree and that NO democracy can stand without a good solid voice of dissent they get quiet.

Then they tell me I’m crazy.

In my life it has always been conservatives. It is almost always evangelical Christian conservatives.

It’s a bit disturbing to see the same behavior rising on the left. Again. Because, truth be told, this dynamic seems to be somewhat cyclical. For both philosophical sides.
