I've always felt like "the breakdown of the family" is a cop out of sorts. Nuclear families aren't normal. The push toward them, IMHO, is what set families up to fail. I think they were more stable before then with extended family present. Nuclear families are incredibly isolating, especially after the kids come.
In regards to neurodivergence, it used to be called being weied or odd. The problem is that being a bit weird or odd used to be okay. We've had a push towars conformity post WWII as well and we've never been so heavily propagandized since then. All that doesn't help general anxiety levels either.
