The other thing I keep hearing is variations of "I know, but I don't care; what have I got to live a few more years for anyway?" People are miserable, so miserable that suicide has reached epidemic proportions. Makes sense that there'd be even more okay with courting death before getting g to the point of actively seeking it. A significant portion of thr population suffers from persistent depression. They just can't manage worrying about Covid, they're already fighting for their lives every day.
