It's got value, absolutely. I don't believe it has disproportionate value though, and that's what we got.

Not sure where you're from, for us primary school was 1st through 5th grade. Middle school starts in 6th grade. High school starts in 9th. Our first introduction to Anne Frank would have been around 4th or 5th grade as one of those insert pages highlighting specific persons in history class. But we didn't read her diary at that point.

There was also a mention of Anne Frank in geography class somewhere in middle school, probably 7th grade. I remember looking at photographs of the camps and their locations on a map, and where Anne Frank and her family hid.

In 8th grade, it was the choice again for English class. The focus was on grammar and word choices because as a diary, it was musings. It wasn't polished.

It was 10th grade that the diary was required reading in literature class. So I was 15. My classmates were mostly 16. We had already grown beyond it being as relatable and bored with the same material year after year. 6 fucking weeks picking that thing apart.
