It's false freedom though, isn't it?
Using your analogy, freedom to drive fast equals prison in a wheelchair for being stupid. Or financial enslavement or restriction due to bankruptcy for having to be hospitalized or causing someone else to be hospitalized because of your stupidity. Or being so burdened by the debt and liens that you can't afford the time or price to do anything you want to do.
That doesn't sound very free.
Of course, people absolutely still have the right to be a dumbass. And as long as they're dedicating themselves to foolishness, "the state" and everyone else also have the right to point out to those people that they're being a dumb ass.
Why? Because while we all know that nature has a way of taking care of stupid people, the process often doesn't happen before there's been significant collateral damage. Nobody wants to be collateral damage.
