You might not want to believe socialization plays such a huge part in our behavioral patterns but it does. It's present in all mammal species.

I'll grant you we are often blind to it in ourselves, as it takes a larger degree of self awareness than most people seem to have. It's often after the fact, when we're reflecting, that we begin to parse it out.

This was the basis of Rebecca Solnit's landmark essay Men Explain Things To Me, there are songs about it (Pink has one), it's in movies and stories. There's been tons of behavioral research around it.

This isn't a new or radical idea. It's fairly well accepted.
