It may not. I get there’s a lot of negative feelings around homeschooling. But let’s be honest, homeschooling is a godsend for some mothers. For many, trying to fit their life around school hours and all the things schools ask of mothers is VERY anxiety inducing.
Frankly, if I’m going to have to keep up with all the school stuff I’d rather just do it myself. A lot less of my time gets wasted long term. I also know what’s going on and what’s coming up. I’m not left trying to make it all work while simultaneously trying to figure out what the hell is going on.
I wrestled with pulling my kid out. I really did. I finally did and now I can’t believe I waited. It’s so much better. Were both happier and thriving. We weren’t before. Before we were just trying not to drown.
I’ve found the arguments over socialization are mostly unfounded too. There are homeschooling groups and neighborhood kids to socialize with. Plus you learn to socialize better with people outside your age group than kids who go to school seem to. That’s invaluable for adult life.
I can also see how some moms need that routine of school and would fall apart if school wasn’t there for there kids. It depends on the kids, and on the parents.
I also have not found anti-vaxxers to be a huge part of homeschooling community. I’ve run across a few, but not many, and it’s mostly tied up with religion from what I’ve observed. Those folks would be isolationists anyway. At any rate, I wouldn’t automatically conflate the two.
