It is a general trend. It's also a group coalescing around resentment.
In other words, many women are opting out of dating because they don't see the value on it for varilous reason but nothing against men.
Still others are opting out because they've either been married before or dated LTR and came to the conclusion after having tried a committee relationship (or several) that they just don't like living in one or don't feel they're wires for it and prefer to be single. I'm in this category, btw. Nothing to do with men.
Some have dated and are now too old for or decided against children only to discover that that was their primary motive for marriage. With children off the table, marriage went with it in their valuation of what would make their best life. No hate to men, just not that interested in them, turns out.
Then there's the others. The ones Max is talking about.
Some have been in numerous relationships that have turned abusive and sworn off men. Many are still exclusively blaming men for all their woes. And in truth, the men are responsible for their actions. That said, these women tend to have cult of the feminine identity beliefs that will put them in harm's way as it's catnip for narcissists. Not saying that's their fault either as most of it stems from religious indoctrinstion or being the child of a parental narcissist, but they need to take accountability for that entitled thinking in order to learn a different skillset and change it. And yes, there's some areogance and entitlement to that thinking, just as there is with Cult of Masculnity thinking.
There's also another group who quietly swear off men while simultaneously 'advocating' for men by bashing other women. They're interesting. I suspect they're mostly about making their share of money men are willing to pay swim in some misogyny like Pearly things, but I also suspect some are just straight up authoritarian wing nuts. They'll simper and fawn over men but if you really listen to what they're saying and what it points to it's clear they deeply hate and resent men. There's a lot of infantalization of men in what they say. It's kinda gross.
