It hurts because it’s true.

To be fair though, we do have a means of removal that should have worked just fine. Impeachment.

When the founders write the Constitution, they did not envision there ever being permanent political parties. There really shouldn’t be. They saw parties as being like minded person’s (men) who supported a candidate campaign wise into office based on a platform of what needed to be done next in the country. They didn’t think they’d carry on indefinitely based on political ideologies.

Therefore, they didn’t consider that Congress would nullify the power of impeachment by voting on party lines rather than guilt or innocence of the charges brought against the President.

It needs to be changed, either by abolishing permanent political parties, changing the mechanism, removing the electoral college, and/or taking money out of politics.

One thing’s for sure…

If Washington, Jefferson, Adams, Franklin, et al had the sad displeasure of witnessing the Trump fiasco, there’s little doubt they’d be deeply ashamed of us.

That epiphany should burn in the heart of every American.
