The Secret Service behaved differently this time around. Many former soldiers and law officers who have been on protective details have commented on it. They're shocked that the guy was even able to get a gun into thr rally and set up where he did.

My first thought was that, like the cabinet, he surrounded himself with sycophants who don't know to do the job and got rid of the people who do and how the shooting attempt went down was the inevitable result od that. 'Course, I have no idea if the former president can choose who he wants on his detail or not. I suppose it's just as possible that the Trump detail might be the "punishment" detail and that happened organically.

At any rate, he got lucky, because that was a prime position for a successful hit.
