It comes down to respect. Child geniuses become societal property because of their potential.

At the same time, it's ridiculous to think they will ever have a "normal" childhood or school experience. School is incredibly isolating for many kids for many different reasons.

I think you've got to let them pursue what interests them and keep all the intelligence groupies away from them as much as you can. Be honest, don't steal their voice. Teach them that it's not enough to be smart at the expense of everything else. There is other value, and they need to tend to that too in themselves and others. Respect their sovereignty to determine their own fate. Just because they could 'change the world', doesn't mean they owe the world or humanity anything any more than anyone else.
