It can be both. What essays mean to people will be different among different people. It may have contributed to this trend somewhat but I’m sure it’s helped a lot of people too. But you need not look at this through the lens of guilt. Here’s another perspective, for what it’s worth.
You’ve been more honest than most; I would not place your articles about Medium earnings as productivity/success porn. You’ve looked at both sides, stressed that it can’t be counted on to not change, and not laid out a meaningless How To Guide of Mediocrity. Further, your success articles have morphed over time as the platform has changed and you’ve made appropriate observations; unlike certain others who are just regurgitating the same concepts, but shaking up the wording a bit.
Lastly, it was Medium’s changes to the platform that provided the environment for those articles to flourish in the first place. You can hardly be faulted for that. Success essays are but a small portion of your catalog.
I wouldn’t stress over this too much. But if it makes you uncomfortable, go ahead and eliminate the topic from future writings. If it really bothers you, archive and delete from the platform the ones you’ve already written. Then move on. I doubt it will affect your readership one way or the other.
