You know, to be fair and just it's said (because I know you don't care about fair - and that's cool) this same dynamic happen in reverse as well. Mothers get that same peer pressure to accept help or offerings they don't want and aren't actually helpful. It's a real thing. Some people get offended and in a snit that you didn't want their help and politely declined.
As a society we've got a lot of boundary issues stemming around children.
