Interesting theory. Maybe this is why so many earlier cultures had rites of passage for young males. You're suggesting a part of the mind attempts to reject unearned status and failure to do so successfully or failure to properly earn said status weakens and softens the mind up for addiction.
They lean into the psychic damage and become addicted to the very thing that harmed them in the first place. Power, control, and violence.
I’ve said similar before, but I didn’t come at it from the perspective of dopamine so this is an interesting line of thought.
