In that event, I see a few possible roads ahead:

  1. The Congress forces him out with the backing of the military.
  2. Congress fails, forcing the military step in.
  3. Congress and the military fail, leading to mass civil unrest. Maybe the Supreme Court steps in. Hard to see how they could effectively without Congress and the military backing them. The civil unrest will lead to police action and marshall law.
  4. If he doesn’t leave office and can’t be removed, it comes down to the people. Ultimately, you cannot govern without consent of the governed. You either earn that consent or you force/coerce it. At this point, we the people either resist even unto death, we try to leave, or we cave in to fascism and blind ourselves to the death and destruction while praying for someone to come save us so we see better days again. Keeping in mind that a full third of the population would love for him be President for life and will relish any opportunity to brutalize the third of the population who believe in democracy. That last third will be the ones to stick their heads in the sand.

Last thought … the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution dictate that when the government betrays the faith of the electorate and/or turn against the people, then the people are admonished to rise against the government and correct the problem. I do not say these words lightly. I understand the consequences. It is part of our founding principles. I do not want this, I’m not advocating mayhem or lawlessness, or anarchy. But, I also understand the consequences of allowing fascism and authoritarianism. I don’t want to live with that.

There is a line there. We best be ready to defend it. We’ve got to hold that line.
